Open-plan kitchen, dining and living room with two mountain bikes parked inside, Ranfurly rail trail house

This is a newly renovated two-bedroom, two-bathroom house that sits directly on the Otago Central Rail Trail next to the old railway station in Ranfurly. It's ours, it's yours for the night, and there's nobody else in it.

We set it up for riders who'd rather finish the day in comfort than in a bunkroom. Two couples get a bathroom each. A solo rider or a pair gets far more space than they need. The lounge is big enough to wheel the bikes inside and hang the gear to dry, and there's a washer and dryer for the days the weather beats you.

Living room with the doors open onto the main street, Lohi Linen and the shops across the road Main bathroom with walk-in shower Kitchen with laundry, washer and dryer alongside Second bathroom Bedroom with king bed

What you get

  • Whole house to yourselves, sleeps four
  • Two bedrooms, two modern bathrooms
  • New kitchen, washing machine and dryer, Wi-Fi, TV
  • Large lounge with room for bikes and drying gear
  • Self check-in with a key safe, so arrive when you arrive
  • Free parking if someone's driving the support car

Where you are

On the trail, in the middle of Ranfurly. Two minutes' walk to The Thirsty Moa for coffee in the morning and wine at night, and the same to the pub, the supermarket and the pharmacy. No shuttle, no detour, no backtracking to town.

Ranfurly sits roughly halfway along the trail, which makes it a natural overnight whether you're riding from Clyde or from Middlemarch. If you've got a spare day, here's what's around.

Your night, sorted

Roll in off the trail, wheel the bikes inside and get the boots off. When you're ready, it's two minutes across the road to The Thirsty Moa for a Central Otago wine and a cheeseboard, or dinner and a pizza. In the morning, coffee and breakfast are the same two minutes away before you clip back in and ride out.

And because we're right across the road, if you need anything, we're right there. No lockbox-and-silence, no driving to find the host. Same door as the shop.

Book direct with us

$290 per night + $60 cleaning

That's the whole house, booked straight with us, and usually cheaper than a booking platform once their fees are added on top.

Send us your dates

We'll come back to you within the day.

Prefer the protection of a platform? You can also book on Airbnb.

This is our last season with the house before it goes to a new use, so if you've got trail dates, it pays to lock them in.

Who we are

We're Russ and Tania. We run The Thirsty Moa and Lohi Linen on Charlemont Street, a short walk from the house, and we've lived in the Maniototo long enough to tell you which way the wind's coming from tomorrow. Ask us anything about the trail.
